Safe sex
Young adults are the highest risk group for contracting STIs, so it is important to make sure that you are safe when having sex. Part of that is to have regular sexual health checkups (it is recommended to checked regularly, e.g. every three month) and especially if you may have had risky sex.
General tips for safe sex are:
- Keeping finger nails short and not wearing jewellery
- Using condoms for anal and oral sex as well as with sex toys as they may be shared with multiple partners
- Avoid oral sex if you have sores or cuts in your mouth
- Using water-based lube to ease penetration rather than oil based lubes which decrease the efficiency of condoms
- Not cumming inside your partner as this can increase transmission
- Using gloves when fingering, fisting or touching each other
- Talk to your partner so that you can feel more comfortable
