Our first book club read of the year was Radclyffe Hall’s The Well of Loneliness, a slightly longer novel written in the 1920s.
As the name suggests, the book wasn’t the most soul cheering piece of prose ever written; the novel tells a story of Stephen, a girl whose parents wanted and expected a boy, and so they christened her with the name of the boy they had anticipated. Stephen is also raised as a boy, and goes on to fall in love with several girls.

Wednesday 28th September was the GULGBT’s very successful official Launch Night. I am going to give you some highlights that you may have missed because they were going on behind the scenes or (more likely) you were too sloshed from our super cheap bar to notice.
The more astute of you might have seen that in all our publicity we said that our license was pending, this was true right up to two days before the event. The committee (Jess (President) in particular) pretended we weren’t worried and dreamed of the epic times we could have with the million litres of vodka, cider, shots and beer that were sitting in Jess’s flat if we couldn’t sell it. But we were all very relieved when it arrived on Tuesday.
